Happy New School Year!
Our days are full of wonderful academic activities.
This year we will make good use of our Student Academic Planners and our orange take-home folders. The students have been instructed to share these items with their parents daily. Asssignments, tests, and other important information will be written in their planners or sent home in their orange folders..
We are continuing to develop fluency with reading. Our Reading Street textbook provides us with opportunities to work through challenging stories and reading skills through a variety of genre. AND we have all chosen chapter books to read independently. Our silent reading time at the end of each day is peaceful and productive..
There are vocabulary words associated with each weekly story. We will work with these words throughout the week. The students should have an understanding of these words for assignments and tests.
[We should ALL be reading every night (including weeekends). Parents please encourage the daily reading and casually monitor progress and comprehension.].
Our class will write frequently, whether just sentences, paragraphs, poems, or all out stories. So we are growing more and more comfortable with our writing skills. We study subject/predicate, punctuation, adjectives, verb tenses, and so much more as we become confident writers.
Spelling patterns and strategies are practiced weekly and reviewed regularly. We work to apply our weekly spelling lessons to all of our reading and writing. Students will be tested on Fridays and should begin studying as soon as they know the words..
We love Math! The students should be practicing basic skills in and outside of the classroom. We will need these skills as we build upon them and learn new skills. They should work on math skills every night, whether it is through assigned homework or just practicing basic skills and reviewing previous lessons.
We will spend some time every day on Religion, Science and Social Studies. Each of these subject areas will have periodic homework, vocabulary to study, and a test at the end of each section. The students will be informed of upcoming tests and instructed to write the dates in their Student Academic Planners.
