Weekly Reminders
Week ending 1-9-2020
Happy New Year! Can you believe 2020? Crazy! I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season and are rested up for the rest of the school year.
We have begun our new novel unit: The Watsons Go To Birmingham this week. We have done a lot with background knowledge and talking about figurative language before starting to read the novel. We will continue this novel this month as well as February. We are connecting it to Martin Luther King Day as well as Black History Month. These are celebrated in January and February and I like the connection that the story has to these historical events in time.
We will be changing the format a little with this novel unit. This is a higher order of thinking book and I think that the students are ready to take this on. We will be doing different exercises to ensure they are comprehending and to also introduce them to different types of literary devices in writing. I am very excited for this.
Mass will be on Friday, January 17th, by Ms. Messier’s fourth grade class. Full uniform with sweaters is required.
Second trimester progress reports go home on January 31st.
Catholic Schools Week begins on January 26th with Mass at 10:00 and Open House for our school to follow. We will also have many activities planned for the children that week. Please stay tuned for a schedule of activities.
Please send in registrations to the office to ensure your child has a spot for next year. On Sunday, January 26th, we open the classes up to the public.
As you know, our class has been hit with some sickness this week. Please make sure that your child is fever free for 24 hours without medicine before sending them back to school. I know as a working parent that it is frustrating but we don’t want to spread the germs around and make others sick too.
Please email me or call the school if your child will not be in to school.
No School on January 20th, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Have a wonderful weekend!
