Saint Kevin School was founded upon the teachings of Jesus Christ and the doctrine and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. God is made known to students in a theoretical sense and also in the real sense as an integral part of the school day. Emphasis is on knowledge and understanding the Word of God and the translation of them into loving service to God and community. Each child is recognized as a special and unique gift of God, worthy to be treated with dignity and respect.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to see Christ as their role model and to follow his example in their daily actions toward one other. The involvement of parents and guardians is pivotal to the spiritual and educational growth of each child. Parents are recognized as the first teachers, and their efforts in teaching their children the faith through prayer and Mass attendance are important in developing the child’s faith.
Our educational programs combine traditional as well as current teaching strategies. The focus is on giving students a strong base in the academic skills and knowledge necessary for students to become independent learners capable of communicating effectively. Their vocation is to become studious pupils, who are loving, respectful and obedient members of their school, church and families. We encourage students to develop the reasoning and processing skills necessary to become effective problem solvers in an ever-changing world.
The school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and follows the curriculum requirement of the Rhode Island Department of Education and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence. Teachers have degrees and most are certified in specialty areas. They are dedicated professional who work diligently to provide the best academic program within a nurturing Catholic Christian environment.
Saint Kevin School offers core academic subjects within an environment that encourages academic excellence and the development of character, responsibility and compassion. We believe in developing a student’s sense of his or her God given talents and for using them to become the person God wants them to be. Community service is an important aspect of the elementary and middle school program. In addition, the school provides opportunities for student enrichment such as Spanish in grades K-8 and Algebra I for students with accelerated mathematics skills. For those students needing extra assistance, resource and tutoring are available.
To provide a well-rounded educational experience for students, Saint Kevin offers art, music, physical education, library and computer technology to students in grades K-8. We believe that it is important for students to develop their technological skills at an early age; middle school students become proficient in creating documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Saint Kevin School celebrates the Catholic tradition as a community at monthly liturgies, Advent and Lenten prayer services; reciting the Rosary and taking part in community service projects to make sure we tend to the needs of the spiritually and physically poor.
